On the occasion of the presidency of the European Union and the 20th anniversary of Hungary's EU membership, our Embassy organized a classical music concert on October 21, 2024 in The Star Theater, which is one of the biggest indoor venues in Singapore. The guests of honour at the concert were the Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Csaba Lantos, Minister for Energy of Hungary. Professor Balázs Gulyás, president of the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network was also present, together with local decision makers, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Hungarian community. In her welcoming speech Ambassador Judit Pach emphasized that the concert, which takes place within the framework of the Hungarian Month, is part of our broader endeavor to bring Hungarian culture and arts closer to Singapore.

The biggest star of the event was Placido Domingo, whose performance remained a secret until the start of the concert. It was his first ever performance in Singapore and the legendary tenor thanked Hungary for its role in conveying cultural values. Soprano opera singer Ildikó Megyimorecz, and the Croatian cellist HAUSER, who has more than 10 million followers and Dimash Qudaibergen, who is extremely popular in Asia took to the stage as well alongside the young talents (Balázs-Piri Soma, Lugosi Ali, Evelin and Valerij Greblo, Teo Gertler) of the now 10-year-old Hungarian television production Virtuosos. The performing artists were accompanied by the Orchestra of the Music Makers from Singapore, conducted by Péter Pejtsik. The concert proved to be a huge success.
