2023 April 12 has been the day of the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Semmelweis Ignác at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The ceremony was marked by the presence of the Rector of Semmelweis University, Prof D. Merkely Béla and Prof Chong Yap Seng, Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin Medical School. After the opening remarks by the University leaders and the Ambassador of Hungary, Pach Judit, Prof John Eu-Li Wong praised Ignác Semmelweis’ indispensable work, of which the statue in Singapore is a worthy memorial.
Before the unveiling, the delegation of Semmelweis University has met with the leaders of Duke-NUS Medical School to lay the groundwork for future collaboration, while in the afternoon, Rector Prof Merkely and his colleagues participated in a campus tour at NUS Medical School and had other fruitful meetings. The day ended with a ceremonial dinner hosted by Prof. Tan Eng Chye, President of NUS.
