Pach Judit nagykövet köszöntője március 15-e alkalmából

Our Tampines Hub - Hungary in Motion Magyar Filmfesztivál

Dear Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Advisor to Tampines GROs

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentleman

Tisztelt Honfitársaim

I strongly believe that during today’s troubling times it is important to support peace and strengthen people-to people relations. Today we commemorate the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, when Hungarians stood up against an oppressive regime. On March 15, 1848 the Hungarian Revolution broke out against the absolutist rule of the Habsburg Monarchy.

Already in 1848 the 3 main driving principles of the revolution were peace, liberty and concord. Eternal values which we need today more than ever when Hungary - being the neighbouring country of Ukraine – has welcomed already over 200 000 refugees fleeing from the horrors of an unexpected war, which taught us to fear for our liberty and soverignity.

Together with Singapore we share common values such as commitment for peace, stability and rules-based multilateral order. Our relations are strong and based on mutual trust which we highly value.

As Singapore we are an open and export-oriented economy with a strong emphasis on innovation and knowledge-based technologies. The links between our two countries are not only strengthened by flourishing business relations but also due to the lively people-to-people interactions.

Several student and lecture exchange programs and scholarships are strengthening collaboration in the field of science and higher education.

And to enhance cultural cooperation I believe art and film are a perfect match.

Today I’m delighted to present to you the first ever Hungarian Film Festival in Singapore organised by our embassy in partnership with Our Tampines Hub. We are honoured that besides our annual participation at the European Union Film Festival, Hungarian cinematography is showcased for Singaporean film lovers here at the Festive Arts Theatre.

When it comes to cinema Hungary has a lot to offer and with some exaggeration, we can say that Hollywood was founded by Hungarian immigrants.

The founder of Paramount Pictures, Adolf Zucker originated from Hungary, the Rambo series with Sylvester Stallone and the famous Terminator movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger were produced by Hungarian Andy Vajna, who became one of the most influential distributors and producers in Hollywood.

Nowadays Budapest has become one of the most important shooting locations in Europe and stars like Ryan Gosling, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt regularly party in Budapest and praise our capital.

The Hungary in Motion film festival presents five great movies which I hope you’ll enjoy and hopefully they’ll motivate you to visit our wonderful country.

Now please allow me to say a few words to my fellow Hungarian compatriots:

Let me close my remarks with big thank you once again for our Singaporean partners for their continuous support and for all of you who came tonight to watch the film!

Let’s explore Hungarian culture in motion!
